Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or olive oil
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 cup of granulated sugar or coconut sugar
- Optional: a pinch of salt
- For coating: additional cinnamon-sugar mixture
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine water, coconut oil, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil.
- Gradually add the whole wheat flour, stirring vigorously until the dough forms a smooth ball. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
- Once cooled, divide the dough into small portions and shape into bite-sized balls or logs, or pipe into mini sticks.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the shaped dough in a single layer in the basket, avoiding overlap.
- Cook for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through.
- While still warm, toss the churro bites in cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat fully.
Notes
- Ensure the dough is not too sticky to handle comfortably. Adjust flour amount if needed.
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom along with cinnamon.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Reheat in air fryer or oven to restore crunch.
