  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup of whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup of granulated sugar or coconut sugar
  • Optional: a pinch of salt
  • For coating: additional cinnamon-sugar mixture

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, coconut oil, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil.
  2. Gradually add the whole wheat flour, stirring vigorously until the dough forms a smooth ball. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  3. Once cooled, divide the dough into small portions and shape into bite-sized balls or logs, or pipe into mini sticks.
  4. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the shaped dough in a single layer in the basket, avoiding overlap.
  5. Cook for 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy, shaking the basket halfway through.
  6. While still warm, toss the churro bites in cinnamon-sugar mixture to coat fully.

Notes

  • Ensure the dough is not too sticky to handle comfortably. Adjust flour amount if needed.
  • For extra flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom along with cinnamon.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Reheat in air fryer or oven to restore crunch.
