- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 cup quick oats
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and powdered sugar. Add flour and mix until combined to form the shortbread crust. Press into the prepared pan.
- Bake the crust for 15 minutes until lightly golden.
- In a skillet, toss apple slices with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook until apples are tender and liquid has thickened.
- Spread the cooked apples evenly over the baked crust.
- In a bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, and salt. Sprinkle over the apples to form the streusel topping.
- Bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until topping is golden and filling is bubbling.
- Allow to cool before cutting into bars. Serve warm or at room temperature.

- Use tart apples like Granny Smith for best flavor.
- Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
- Great served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
