Ingredients
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- ½ cup warm milk
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 6 slices of bacon, cooked and chopped
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- ¼ cup bourbon
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- For the filling:
- ½ cup softened butter
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons bourbon
- 1-2 tablespoons milk (as needed)
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk, 1 teaspoon sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit until frothy, about 5-10 minutes.
- Prepare dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together remaining sugar, melted butter, eggs, and salt. Add the frothy yeast mixture. Gradually add the flour, kneading until the dough is soft and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Cook bacon: Fry bacon slices until crispy, then chop into small pieces. Mix softened butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon to make the filling. Stir in bacon once cooled.
- Assemble rolls: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out dough into a large rectangle on a floured surface. Spread bacon cinnamon filling evenly. Roll tightly from the longer side and cut into 12 slices. Place in greased baking dish, spaced apart.
- Bake rolls: Mix maple syrup and bourbon, pour over rolls. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Make glaze: Mix powdered sugar, bourbon, and milk until smooth. Drizzle over hot rolls as soon as they come out of the oven.
Notes
- For a nutty flavor, add chopped pecans or walnuts to the filling.
- Use honey instead of maple syrup for a different sweetness.
- Add vanilla extract for extra aroma.
- Prepare the rolls ahead of time and refrigerate overnight for fresh morning baking.
