  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 1 loaf (8-10 slices)

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe large bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups (190 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup (50 g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (180 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional: chopped nuts for added texture

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the bananas until smooth. Add the oil or melted butter, sugar, and eggs. Whisk until well combined and slightly fluffy.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, espresso powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 55-65 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

  • For an extra chocolatey flavor, sprinkle additional chocolate chips on top before baking.
  • Chopped nuts are optional but add a nice crunch and texture.
  • Wrap cooled bread tightly in plastic wrap or foil for storage and keep at room temperature for up to 2 days.
