- 1 pizza dough crust
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook until soft and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with sugar, salt, and pepper during cooking.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Spread the caramelized onions evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle with shredded Gruyere and Parmesan cheese, and garnish with fresh thyme leaves.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
- Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and serve hot garnished with additional herbs if desired.
Notes
- You can prepare the caramelized onions ahead of time for quicker assembly.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of balsamic vinegar during caramelization.
