Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup fresh or frozen wild blueberries
- 1 cup ricotta cheese
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Prepare the filling by mixing ricotta cheese with vanilla extract. Gently fold in blueberries.
- Divide the risen dough into 8 equal portions. Flatten each and place a spoonful of filling in the center. Seal and shape into balls or buns.
- Place the buns on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar if desired. Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Thaw frozen blueberries before mixing into the filling to prevent sogginess.
- For a richer flavor, use mascarpone instead of ricotta.
- Serve with honey, sour cream, or fresh berries for added flavor.
