Easy to make and irresistibly fluffy, these homemade breakfast rolls are ideal for busy mornings or relaxed weekends, offering a delightful start to any day.

  • Total Time: 2 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 12 rolls

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F) with a teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together remaining sugar, salt, and flour. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, melted butter, and the activated yeast mixture. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
  5. Gently punch down the dough, divide into 12 pieces, shape into balls, and place on a greased baking dish.
  6. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with beaten egg, sprinkle seeds if desired, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool slightly before serving warm with butter, jam, or spreads.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
  • Use high-quality flour for softer, fluffier rolls.
  • Allow adequate rising time for best fluffiness.
  • Customize with herbs, cheese, or spices for added flavor.
