Ingredients
Scale
- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup warm milk
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- Optional: sesame seeds or poppy seeds for topping
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk (about 110°F) with a teaspoon of sugar and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together remaining sugar, salt, and flour. In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, melted butter, and the activated yeast mixture. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
- Gently punch down the dough, divide into 12 pieces, shape into balls, and place on a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes until puffy. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Brush tops with beaten egg, sprinkle seeds if desired, and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving warm with butter, jam, or spreads.
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
- Use high-quality flour for softer, fluffier rolls.
- Allow adequate rising time for best fluffiness.
- Customize with herbs, cheese, or spices for added flavor.
