Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- Extra melted butter for brushing
- Sugar or honey for serving (optional)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and blend using a pastry cutter or fingers until coarse crumbs form.
- Gradually pour in the buttermilk, stirring gently until the dough just comes together and is shaggy.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead lightly a few times. Pat into a 1-inch thick rectangle, then cut into rounds with a biscuit cutter.
- Place the biscuits on a greased baking sheet, spacing them apart evenly.
- Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Brush warm biscuits with melted butter before serving for extra richness.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add shredded cheese, herbs, or cooked bacon to the dough before baking.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- Reheat in oven or air fryer to enjoy warm again. Freeze for long-term storage up to 3 months.
