Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Sauté diced onion and minced garlic in olive oil until fragrant and translucent.
- Add ground beef or turkey, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Mix cooked meat, cream of mushroom soup, and milk in a large bowl until smooth.
- Spread the mixture evenly in a greased baking dish. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the meat layer.
- Arrange frozen tater tots on top in a single layer, then sprinkle additional cheese over the tots.
- Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes until tater tots are golden and crispy. Broil for 2-3 minutes for extra crispness, if desired.
- Rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with optional toppings like green onions, bacon bits, or jalapeños.
