  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 package frozen tater tots (about 32 oz.)
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook the ground beef or turkey until browned, then add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until translucent. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika. Drain excess fat.
  2. In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup with half of the shredded cheeses to create the creamy layer.
  3. In a greased baking dish, spread the cooked meat mixture evenly. Add frozen vegetables if using, then pour the cheese mixture evenly over the top. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single layer on top. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the tater tots.
  4. Bake uncovered for about 45 minutes, until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy. Broil for an additional 2-3 minutes for extra crispiness if desired.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, substitute ground turkey and use low-fat cheese options.
  • Adding cooked bacon or sautéed mushrooms can enhance flavor.
  • Use homemade béchamel or cream of chicken soup as a dairy-free alternative.
