A hearty pizza inspired by classic French onion soup, featuring caramelized onions, melted cheese, and a crispy crust.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 slices

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pre-made pizza crust
  • 2 cups caramelized onions
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook slowly until golden and caramelized, about 20 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and thyme.
  3. Spread caramelized onions evenly over the pizza crust.
  4. Sprinkle shredded Gruyere and mozzarella cheeses over the onions.
  5. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes or until cheese is bubbly and crust is golden.
  6. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with additional thyme if desired. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, brush the crust edges with garlic butter before baking.
  • Use high-quality cheese for the best melt and taste.
  • Can be made vegetarian or with additional toppings like sliced mushrooms or cooked bacon.
