Create a spooky and delicious Halloween-themed appetizer with our Salami & Mozzarella Eye Bites. These creepy eye-shaped snacks are perfect for impressing guests at any Halloween party, combining savory salami, creamy mozzarella, and realistic eyeball effects for a frightfully fun treat.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 20 eye bites

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 slices of salami
  • 20 small mozzarella balls or cubes
  • 20 small black olives or peppercorns (for the pupils)
  • Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
  • Toothpicks
  • Olive oil (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Lay out the salami slices flat on a clean surface. Using a small round cutter or a cup, cut out circles from the salami to create the ‘eyeballs.’
  2. Place a mozzarella ball or cube in the center of each salami circle. Gently press the salami around the mozzarella to secure it.
  3. Insert a small black olive or peppercorn into the center of the mozzarella to mimic the pupil.
  4. Thread a toothpick through each assembled ‘eyeball’ for easy serving and handling.
  5. Optional: add a small basil leaf beside the salami on top for extra color and freshness. Brush lightly with olive oil for a shiny finish.

Notes

  • You can prepare the components ahead of time and assemble just before serving to keep the salami crispy and mozzarella fresh.
  • For variation, use provolone or mini cheese balls instead of mozzarella, and black sesame seeds or nori for pupils.
