Ingredients
Scale
- 20 slices of salami
- 20 small mozzarella balls or cubes
- 20 small black olives or peppercorns (for the pupils)
- Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)
- Toothpicks
- Olive oil (for brushing)
Instructions
- Lay out the salami slices flat on a clean surface. Using a small round cutter or a cup, cut out circles from the salami to create the ‘eyeballs.’
- Place a mozzarella ball or cube in the center of each salami circle. Gently press the salami around the mozzarella to secure it.
- Insert a small black olive or peppercorn into the center of the mozzarella to mimic the pupil.
- Thread a toothpick through each assembled ‘eyeball’ for easy serving and handling.
- Optional: add a small basil leaf beside the salami on top for extra color and freshness. Brush lightly with olive oil for a shiny finish.
Notes
- You can prepare the components ahead of time and assemble just before serving to keep the salami crispy and mozzarella fresh.
- For variation, use provolone or mini cheese balls instead of mozzarella, and black sesame seeds or nori for pupils.
