Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet of refrigerated puff pastry or homemade pastry dough
- 3 large apples, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 egg, beaten
- For the glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk or heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the pastry dough on a lightly floured surface.
- Arrange sliced apples in the center of the pastry sheet, leaving a border around the edges.
- Mix sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; sprinkle over apples.
- Fold the edges of the pastry over the apples to create a rustic tart shape, pinching to seal.
- Brush the pastry crust with beaten egg.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
- While baking, prepare the glaze by mixing powdered sugar, vanilla, and enough milk to reach a pourable consistency.
- Drizzle the vanilla glaze over the warm kringle before serving.
Notes
- Use tart or sweet apples like Granny Smith or Fuji for best flavor.
- Ensure the pastry edges are sealed well to prevent spillage.
- Serve warm or at room temperature for optimal flavor.
